JT Level 3 Off Road Ready Build Package, 37 or 38 Inch Tires

Trail Jeeps Level 3 Build Packages are all about perfecting what's already great about your Jeep, keeping it a comfortable daily driver while being able to hit extreme off road trails as often as you would like. This package is built around a 37 or 38 inch tire, which is really the maximum tire size you want to install on the factory drivetrain. It maintains the factory suspension geometry, utilizing the extremely capable Off Road Evolution Enforcer line of suspensions. To keep performance from taking a hit from those big tires, it includes a regear of the differentials and factory axles are kitted out with tried and true RCV Performance axle shafts and Adams 1350 driveshafts. A front truss is installed to keep that axle straight and protected. To keep it reliable, steering is upgraded to a beefy Rock Jock steering set up with geometry to compensate for the lift, Dynatrac HD Rebuildable Balljoints. Steering is given more shove with a PSC EHPS booster, which can be upgraded to a full ram assist if desired. Wheels are also upgraded, the base option for this kit are a Trail Jeeps favorite - Method Beadgrip wheels - to allow you to air down with peace of mind, or you can upgrade to a true beadlock wheel.

If desired, there are long arm and coil over suspension upgrades available as well. While these options do offer additional wheel travel, given their cost, we would much rather see a customer spread their budget throughout the vehicle to make sure the whole vehicle can withstand the rigors of repeated off road use. The factory "short arm" suspension does offer plenty of articulation as is, and keeps servicing and repair more straightforward and simple.

This package is what we consider the ultimate jumping off point to finishing off an off road centric build with a compliment of armor, winches, skid plates and lights of your choice, which can be including in your build or saved for later. You can also use it as is on a 37 inch tire, as the driveline is ready to go and factory skid plates do offer enough protection to get into big rocks as long as limited protection is kept in mind while wheeling in the big stuff. While this package is designed to support up to a 38 inch tire, keep in mind that you will need to swap in a high line style fender (pictured above) or an off road metal fender, such as a Genright, in order to be able to fully articulate your suspension. Even with a 37 inch tire, we recommend a high line fender as a 37 does contact the plastic fender liner when fully compressed, and it will contact most full width plastic or OE steel bumper if the wings are still installed.

Like all of our build packages, this is a discounted bundle, chosen by Trail Jeeps for its predictability, ease of installation, performance and finish. Building your Jeep with a Trail Jeeps package does save money, and the cost savings of starting off with a Level 3 package are considerable.

Got a non-Rubicon Gladiator and want to make it into a Level 3? We can do it, but there is limited parts support for its pair of shorter M210 open diff axles. Lockers are available, but rear shaft options are few and far between, and for this type of package we want these things to be as close to bombproof as we can make it, and in our eyes the factory shafts just aren't up to snuff, and the shorter axles will mean that there will be tire rub with larger tires. If this is something you would like to explore further with us, give us a call! Maybe we'll have a set of Rubicon take out axles on hand!

Evo Mfg JT 4.5" Enforcer Lift Stage 4 Plus w/Evo Spec 2.5 King Shocks with Adjusters

For Trail Jeeps Level 3 build packages, we have chosen to include the Off Road Evolution Enforcer Level 4 suspension system as the base for this build. In our experience, this is the ultimate suspension package for the hard core Jeeper who wants to maximize what's good about their late model Wrangler, with great road manners and unparalleled, super durable off road performance.

Off Road Evolution's Enforcer systems offer a more firm, "truck like" ride, which is my no means harsh or unpleasant, while keeping the excellent road handling that many Jeepers expect from their JT Gladiator. The key to this kit, in our opinion, is to include all of Off Road Evolution's excellent control arms to extract every bit of articulation the suspension is capable of delivering. Also, we like to make sure we pair Evo's linear plush ride spring with their excellent Enforcer spec'd King 2.5 shocks with adjusters for the ultimate control of the suspension's performance.

Many manufacturers offer great proprietary control arm designs with their own misalignment joints, some of them are truly excellent. But when manufacturers offer their own ends like this, it means that you must carry spare joints or bushings incase you experience a failure in the field, and if you're in a pinch with a busted joint, you're relying on that manufacturer to have that in stock.

Off Road Evolution's adjustable control arms are based around off the shelf Rock Jock (Currie) Johnny Joints, which have been an industry staple for the last couple of decades. Johnny Joints have over 30 degrees of articulation per joint, and with proper maintenance offer years of quiet, smooth operation and bind free of road performance. The smooth steel joint is incased in a greased polyurethane shell that provides road dampening for good street manners, and they are field serviceable, so if you do experience a failure on the trail you can replace the joint with basic hand tools and be back on the trail within minutes. As an added bonus, every shop knows the Johnny Joint, parts are plentiful and are easy to obtain, so if you are on a road trip style adventure, you can easily get the parts you need quickly and affordably. The control arms themselves are made of 1.75” OD x .313 Wall DOM Tubing, so they're practically unbreakable.

The recommended King shocks are known for their durability and tuneability. Like the Johnny Joint, off-roaders have been smashing on King shocks for years, and they're known for their hardcore, off-road-ready designs and stellar build quality. The trade off is that they do require a bit more maintenance than many other shocks, although they are still capable of going for years without requiring a rebuild. They do leak down in colder weather faster than many of the other shock options, so it is recommended that a King Shock owner has their nitrogen set up, or comes into Trail Jeeps for a top off of the nitrogen charge in preparation of wheeling season after a cold winter. This is not a difficult or expensive endeavor, but it is something to keep in mind. They are easy for aftermarket shock services to rebuild, and parts are always available and usually on hand.

Keep in mind, like all high-performance suspension parts, the Enforcer kit requires a little more maintenance, and the owner would do well to get familiar with their kit. The Johnny Joints need to be greased every so often during everyday use, and it is recommended that they're serviced after wet or snowy weather, water crossings, or off-road excursions. This is a true enthusiast suspension package, and the ability to maintain and service it is often considered an upside as it forces the owner to get under their Jeep and put their eyes on the underside of their Jeep, becoming familiar with its configuration and quirks.

Revolution JL/JT (D44/D44R) 5.13 Ratio Gear Package (220MM-210MM) Rubicon

Trail Jeeps specializes in driveline and differential upgrades, and we strongly recommend regearing your JL Wrangler for anything taller than a 37-inch tire. The 8 speed automatic and 6 speed manual do a great job of compensating for a larger tire, but you'll still want to regear for a 37-inch tire regardless if you're Jeep is powered by the 3.6 Pentastar, 2.0 Turbo, 3.0 Ecodiesel (Rest In Peace!) or 392 in order to get it right. You paid a lot for your fancy new Jeep, why skip gearing and ruin the highway performance? When you regear, you are increasing the engine and transmission's leverage on the tires, getting precious torque back that is lost with the addition of larger tires, keeping your transmission in its proper gears at highway speeds, and drastically decreasing wear on engine and driveline components. As an added bonus, a JL on 37s that has been geared properly experiences minimum fuel economy loss, which translates into a real increase in range and reduces money spent at the pump.

Trail Jeeps likes to regear to 5.13 for a 37 or 38 inch tire for JLs with the 3.6, especially when pulling a trailer or regularly driving into the mountains. For manual transmissions, 3.0 Ecodiesels, 2.0 Turbos, 392s or Jeeps that see a lot of highway driving on flatter roads, a 4.88 gear is also a consideration and can provide additional fuel economy if driven for long distances. You may want to consider a 4.56 for you guys that are still rolling with the Ecodiesel, although the difference between 4.56 and 4.88 is negligible.

For our gears, Trail Jeeps sticks with Revolution Gear and Axle exclusively for reliable, quiet operation, predictable installation characteristics, and for their solid warranty policy. It is also worth nothing that Revolution Gear and Axle is an American, veteran owned company, who we have had an awesome relationship with for years. Their gears are cut in South Korea, which is the place to go for OE quality gears. Watch out for gears made in China.

Here's more info from Revolution Gear and Axle on their gears:

SteerSmarts YETI JL/JT Sector Shaft Brace with Frame Side Track Bar Reinforcement Bracket

Trail Jeeps strongly recommends a sector shaft brace to guard against premature steering box failure on any lifted application with a factory steering box.

The YETI XD™ JL/JLU/JT Sector Shaft Brace With Frame Side Track Bar Reinforcement Bracket was engineered to bolt onto the stock track bar mount on the frame. The purpose of this piece is two-fold. First, the sector shaft support is meant to help minimize the aluminum and steel steering gears from flexing/deflecting/moving when cycling your steering system side to side. The second part of the product is to reinforce the frame side track bar mounting location to help minimize the deflection of this frame side bracket and ensure that the mount doesn't break under extreme stress.

Steer Smarts Yeti JL/JT Front Adjustable Track Bar-Red

For the Level 3 build package, we include what we consider to be the ultimate adjustable track bar for the JL Gladiator - The Steer Smarts YETI XD track bar.

This massive track bar has forged ends that can withstand the impacts associated with off-road use. They're designed for with clearances in mind to eliminate interference that can come from high performance adjustable suspensions, they're double adjustable so you don't have to remove them to adjust the axle, and they utilize rubber bushings for increased ride comfort.

Clayton Offroad Gladiator Adjustable Rear Track Bar

Included in this package is Clayton's high clearance rear track bar, allowing a full-size spare! Constructed from 1 3/8" x 5/16" DOM tubing, this track bar comes is plenty durable and its polyurethane ends provide dampening for a smooth street ride.

Rock Jock JL/JT (Rubicon) High Steer Knuckle Kit (For Stabilizer Shock)

The RockJock Correctlyc steering package is a game changer for JLs and JTs. One of the downfalls of the JL platform is that you have to notch the frame to give a conventional high steer room to move, and to do so means notching the crumple zone of the of the JL's frame, not great.

But, this is no longer an issue. The JL Correctlyc kit comes with ductile steel knuckles, much stronger than the factory aluminum and an upgrade from factory steel knuckles, that move all of the geometry tie rod up and out of the way, and move the draglink into a high steer position, with a track bar relocation bracket to match! The magic bullet that they used to solve the notching issue is a curved draglink that goes around the frame when the right side of the vehicle is compressed.

This set up give you crisp steering, improves ride by taking the angle out of the front track bar, and gives your steering box better leverage to push your big tires around by flattening the drag link angle.

Here is some info from RockJock:

More than just a pair of knuckles, THE ONLY High Steer Kits on the market that are COMPLETE!

These are bolt-on kits designed specifically for the JL/JT/JK vehicle platforms, engineered to optimize performance and available with both steering damper and ram assist options

THIS IS NOT a flip kit! Kits feature new knuckle castings with elevated steering arms - making them the highest High Steer solution available on the market!

Cast, 65-45-12 ductile iron knuckles replace the unreliable stock aluminum knuckles

Raises drag link and trac bar axle mounting points 2.50 in., correcting front end geometry to enhance stability, reduce body roll, and prevent bump steer

Preserves correct Ackermann geometry for safe and reliable on-road handling across all speeds and conditions, including highway driving, towing, and heavy loads

Lifts the tie rod by 2.75 in., elevating it above the rocks and enhancing ground clearance for all steering components

While most flip kits require a minimum of 3.0 in. of bump stop, the RockJock High Steer incorporates a dip in both the drag link and tie rod to optimize up travel potential, requiring only 2.2 in. (gas), 1.1 in. (diesel) and .188 in. (392) of bump stop!

CAD-based packaging using our forged, organically shaped trac bar and drag link prevents components from making premature contact with the frame, enabling greater upward travel than stock, even with lifts as low as 3 in.

Knuckles (included)

Knuckles feature two adjustable steering stop locations (fore and aft of axle centerline) for full lock-to-lock adjustability which helps ease the strain on steering components at full lock

Allows for ALL factory outer components to be retained, including ball joints, unit bearings, outer axles, brakes and dust shields

OEM JL/JT aluminum knuckles are replaced with RockJock’s cast 65-45-12 ductile iron knuckles. The stock aluminum knuckles often fail at the taper and ball joint press holes over time. RockJock knuckles exceed OEM quality and strength

NOT a flip kit! Knuckles feature longer, raised steering arms that push the tie rod outward, away from the axle slightly, allowing for tighter steering angle over that of stock and 1 ton axles

RH Knuckle features a rearward tipping of the upper, tapered drag link mounting hole to help the rod end head clear 17 in. wheels (mandatory), with up to stock offset/backspacing of ET=44.45

Steering (included)

Tie Rod is raised 2.75 in.

Raising of steering rods puts them back to stock geometry after vehicle is lifted restoring factory steering geometry for improved drivability and overall road comfort on a lifted rig

Raising of steering rods puts them out of harm’s way

Dip in tie rod and dip in drag link allow for maximum up travel, requiring only 2.2 in. (gas), 1.1 in. (diesel) and .188 in. (392) of bump stop, as opposed to a 3.0 in. bump stop on most competitor kits

Vehicles already equipped with RockJock steering (with forged drag link) can reuse their steering

Bracket Kit (included)

Bracket kit relocates the trac bar mounting point up 2.50 in. for corrected front-end geometry, improving stability, reducing body roll, and preventing bump steer

Hydraulic assist ram bracket kit requires trimming of the factory trac bar bracket on the axle housing and requires some minor welding

Bracket for hydraulic ram assist features a skid plate, incorporated into the bracket, to protect the ram from rock strikes

FOX 2.0 ATS Steering Stabilizer for the JL/JT

Controversial as it may be, the steering stabilizer's job is to absorb shock loads from the tires and keep those movements from making their way into the steering box and steering wheel. They aren't there to stop death wobble, and most stabilizer options only serve to numb the steering feel. High quality one way stabilizers can also cause steering pull, and while they do provide better dampening, it's not really enough to justify upgrading away from the factory steering stabilizer.

Enter the Fox ATS Steering Stabilizer, which is in our opinion the only way to go if you are looking to improve dampening for your large tires while not negatively effecting drivability.

The ATS's through rod design that doesn’t cause the Jeep to pull to one side, while is two way nitrogen cylinder provides a large improvement in protecting the components shock loading. The Fox ATS Steering Stabilizer features 24 clicks of adjustment, so you can decide how much input it has on your steering feel, a remote reservoir, to provide the fluid needed to prevent it from fading off road.

PSC APEX EHPS Steering Boost Kit with PSC Fluid Cooler Kit

When you install big tires you make it harder for your Jeep's steering pump and steering box to move those tires, and luckily the design of the Jeep gives you an afford option to hot rod your steering system. The JL and JT came with what's called an "Electrohydraulic power steering," or EHPS. Don't be afraid of the future, this is not a bad thing! It's an electrically driven power steering pump, removing inefficiency from your engine vs a standard belt driven pump. While it has its limitations, we have found that it also works really well and has proven its self to be durable and reliable.

It turns out that Jeep turned the EHPS system very low, making sure that the system doesn't make a lot of heat and lasts a long time. In the early days of the JL platform, companies tinkered with the system and figured out that the factory blowoff valve can be returned to allow the system to increase power by about 40%. This does generate a lot of heat and requires the addition of a power steering cooler, but it'll also save you from overheating your factory pump while off road, a shortcoming of the EHPS system.

This is the most economical way to increase the strength of your steering, it's biggest benefit is that it is simple, the hardware is cheap and it retains the expensive factory pump and steering box, which has proven itself to be very durable, and it keeps you from having to run a more complicated hydraulic ram assist set up on your axle. It has great steering feel, and many customers find it to be enough of a boost to comfortably run a 37 or 38 inch tire at low pressures off road.

We wanted to give customers the option of upgrading their steering further by including this excellent, cost effective upgrade as part of this package. There are upgrades available from PSC, and all of them are really good, but are an added expense. PSC makes replacement EHPS pumps, which are really awesome, and provide a massive increase in steering pressure and can drive a ram assist, or for 3.6 and 392 options there are conversions that convert your steering pump to a convention, field serviceable belt driven pump.

There are also full ram assist packages available across most JT configurations, which gives you one finger steering even in the toughest of off road situations. You can learn more about these upgrades in our Steering Section.

Dynatrac HD BallJoints/Prosteer for 2020-Current Jeep JL and Gladiator JT

Balljoints have been a major shortcoming of the JK and JL/JT Wrangler. We rarely see the factory balljoints last for more than 30,000 miles with larger than stock tires with even moderate off road use, which is why we replace the factory balljoints with Dynatrac Heavy-Duty Balljoints!

These will be the last balljoints your Jeep will ever need. We adopted these balljoints as our go-to one size fixes as soon as we tried them on our own Jeeps just after they were released, transforming one of the Wrangler's weak links into one of it's best attributes. Dynatrac ball joints are the strongest, most durable, and highest quality available anywhere, featuring heat-treated high-strength billet bodies with chromoly stems.

Dynatrac Rebuildable HD Balljoints for 2018-Present Jeep Wrangler JL and 2019-Present Jeep Gladiator JT solve wear and excessive movement issues that can lead to increased tire wear, loose steering feel, and decreased stability. With larger tires, factory ball joints can develop excessive play and movement in as little as 20,000 miles.

The heat-treated, precision-ground stainless steel ball meets military specifications. Unique seals prevent contamination, and the ball joints have greasable fittings and Teflon-coated wear points to provide a long, durable life. OE style balljoints require them to be pressed in and out of the axle's knuckle C's for replacement, making them a difficult trail fix. Dynatrac balljoints are rebuildable on the vehicle with common hand tools.

These are one of our very favorite mods, and throughout the years of using them, we've only seen a handful of failures, all of which have been able to be rebuild on the vehicle, never coming loose from the C's or requiring a full replacement.

Nitto Trail Grapplers M/T (37x12.50R17 LT) x 5

The Nitto Trail Grappler is our favorite tire here at Trail Jeeps. Despite it being a true mud terrain, this tire is actually great on the road, and with proper rotation, we regularly see them last more than 30,000 miles even with hard core off road abuse.

The tread blocks are designed to be aggressive - and yet quiet - off-road tires, making this the quietest aggressive mud terrain we have driven. There are a lot of excellent mud terrain tires out there, many with great street manners, but most get loud as they wear compared to the Trail Grappler. Off-road, performance is obviously the Trail Grappler's strongest attribute, with an unparalleled ability to find traction in dirt and rocks, clear the treads in even the goopiest mud, and its tread compound sticks to slick rock-like a lizard while also providing great streetwear characteristics.

The Trail Grappler's 3-ply construction is also as close to indestructible as you can get with a steerable off road tire. Everyone at Trail Jeeps has owned this tire, and we can attest to their durability, having put them through some of the craziest off-road situations you can imagine.

The one downfall of the Trail Grappler, which the daily driver should consider, is that they are not great in hard-packed snow and icy conditions. They carve up deep snow like mud, but their lack of siping and large surface area contact cause them to struggle in hard-packed snow and ice. They are also decent in wet conditions, but the driver should just be aware that they are a mud terrain while braking and cornering during adverse weather conditions.

Method Race Wheels 701 Bead Grip Matte Black plus Lug Nuts, Spline, M14x1.5

Quickly after its release the Method Bead Grip became our favorite, do everything wheel choice for Jeep builds. Method's Bead Grip technology allows deflation of tires down to pressures that previously would have required beadlock wheels to make sure tires didn’t debead.

We have found the Bead Grip to be lightweight, easy to balance, and tremendously capable in off-road situations, replacing the need for complicated and expensive bead lock wheels for most off-road enthusiasts. They are serviceable at any conventional tire shop with a strong enough tire machine, and don't leak down and require maintenance like a beadlock.

We are comfortable airing a Bead Grip down to 10psi on the trails, which is low enough to tackle pretty much anything, but if you are regularly getting into hard-core off-roading, you have the option of upgrading to a bead lock wheel.

The one major downside to a Method Bead Grip is its lack of a removable/replaceable ring. This wheel is very capable off road, but it takes damage along the bead in heavy rock, leading to sharp edges and permanent scoring.

Artec JL/JT APEX Front Axle Armor Kit

The new JL/JT M210 "Dana 44" is a major improvement than the JK Dana 44 front axle. It has beefier tubes and knuckle C's which are much less prone to breaking, and the new ring and pinion design gives the gears deeper engage with more surface area contact for a much stronger differential capable of supporting a large tire off road. The non-392s also have a front axle disconnect, or "FAD," which is nothing to be feared. It has proven to be reliable and durable, unlike the old FADs that were available in XJs and YJs that gave it a bad name. It does help with fuel economy and reduces wear on the front axle components by keeping the differential and driveshafts from spinning when in two wheel drive.

Like all things, it does have its weaknesses though, and the FAD housing is the biggest one. Instead of bending axle housings, like in JKs, we see the FAD crack and fail, and we've even seen them blow in half Any damage to the FAD section of the axle is considered catastrophic and not repairable! The best insurance for a JL M210 is a good truss system, and the Artec front axle armor kit is our favorite. It not only proves a truss that bridges the the FAD housing, alleviating the stress on the FAD housing, but will also keep the housing from bending or breaking. It also includes C gussets, to ensure your knuckle sees stay straight, and weld on control arm skid plates to keep the control arm mounts from being damaged off road. We have seen first hand the beating that a well trussed M210 can take vs the stock housing, and we recommend it for any Jeeper that plans on taking their rig off road.

RCV Ultimate Dana 44 Axle CV set for Jeep JL & JT Rubicon w/FAD

Like so many aspects of the Rubicon M210, the axle shafts were improved. Whether they're the conventional U-Joint style axles or the newer CV style axles found in "Auto Hi" all wheel drive capable Jeeps, they've proven to hold up pretty well with up to a 37 inch tire when driven off road gently. But, they still break.

RCV Performance Ultimate CV axles are an awesome upgrade to any vehicle that goes off road. The RCV Performance Ultimate CV Axles for Jeep JT Rubicon Dana 44 provide unmatched strength and smoothness you can feel.  The RCVs simply replace your OEM Jeep JL axle shafts with a high-strength constant velocity design. Their eliminate oscillation and "crow hop" caused by the uneven power delivery of a u-joint axle.  The RCV CVs provide 6 points of fully-engaged contact throughout any angle up to 45 degrees, providing 100% strength even when the steering is turned to lock.

Along with the CV shaft and the axle itself, the FAD section of the axle is also beefed up, with a new hardened engagement collar that binds the hardened chromoly axle shafts together. We have seen zero FAD failures with RCVs, and breaking the CV itself is a challenge. These axles do require semi-regular greasing, and we recommend greasing after off road excursions, wet weather and water crossings. In the event that breakage does occur, RCV does include a lifetime no questions asked warranty with their axles. If you break it doing something fun, they replace it! RCVs are fully rebuildable and serviceable, and with proper maintenance they can be considered a lifetime upgrade.

RCV Ultimate 300M Dana 44 Rear Axle Set for Jeep JL Rubicon 2018+

Just like the font axle, the rear axle is also treated to a set of RCV Performance axle shafts, this time with their Ultimate 300M axle set.

RCV Performance Ultimate Rear Axles simply replace your stock 32 spline Jeep JL's weak Dana 44 (OE refers to it as the M220) axle shafts with a high-strength 300M design that is 100% MADE IN THE USA. Tests prove Ultimate CV Axles to be twice as strong as OEM Jeep JL shafts. Even if you have big tires and big power there are no worries. RCV backs it all with a "No Questions Asked" limited lifetime warranty against breaking & bending!

While the much improved M220 can handle a 37 inch tire, for '18-'23 Rubicons, bent flanges are common,  vehicles with spun rear bearings on vehicles are also commonplace, and like with the JK rear axles, the OE axle shafts can only handle so much twist before the deform permanently and bend. For '24 and up JLs the full float rear axle is a big improvement, but the axle shafts are still vulnerable to twisting and the OE spines are more easily twisted at the hubs.

Axle set includes right and left rear axle shafts. Dual bolt pattern threaded flanges support the stock 5x5" bolt patterns. Axles come fully dressed with all the necessary bearings, seals, retainers and studs to complete the package. Black oxide coating is standard.

Adams Driveshaft JT Gladiator Rubicon Front 1350 CV Driveshaft OEM Flange Style [Extreme Duty Series]

The front and rear "Rzeppa" driveshafts are surprisingly strong and able to withstand abuse, but they are vulnerable to trail damage, one rock strike can easily compromise their shape, which is where they get their strength. The Rzeppa joint is also not considered field serviceable, and their service life on a lifted vehicle is somewhere between 40,000 to 70,000 miles.

We take any driveshaft concerns associated with a heavily modified Jeep and throw them out the window by replacing front and rear driveshafts with burly Adams 1350 driveshafts. A 1350 is considered the standard "unbreakable" driveshaft, providing plenty of strength for whatever you can throw at it. 1350 U-Joints are also readily available at any parts store, and are field serviceable so if you do experience failure on the trail, you can drop the driveshaft and install a new u-joint with common hand tools and be back on the trail quickly.

Adams Jeep JK 1350 driveshafts are the strongest driveshafts on the aftermarket. They use only the best driveshaft components made by American companies Spicer and Neapco, and are proudly made in Las Vegas, Nevada, USA.
